Feedback
Feedback for Nick after his recent trip.
I love this board! Tipping the balance between a shortboard and mid-length, I was a little concerned it felt too small when paddling out for the first time on a big day (being 6'4" and 14-odd stone), but it then proceeded to easily paddle into good size, powerful waves, and feel really comfortable in such conditions. On smaller / mid size days too, the board goes great, picking up waves you might otherwise miss with the extra length, but not compromising on maneuverability. I love the arcing turns you can do with the rounded pin and fin setup.
I took the board to Panama, where I got to try it out in some hollower waves, and the thing goes great in the barrel, locking in nicely with the rounded pin. You can draw some nice lines too, going as minimal as you like in trim, or pushing it pretty vertical, the tail holds in and the rails are nice and responsive. I've been riding it with a 7" centre and FCS GX sides, which carve beautifully, but I'm yet to experiment with different fin setups. So it's an ideal travel board, and something to ride on the overhead days here, but don't underestimate it's potential in smaller waves too.

I've redesign the Spectro adding the best qualities of the Lumus four fin Bonzer that i have been riding for the past two years. This board is designed for freedom, precision, and control with high speed, full rail, carving turns, and sharp pivotal snaps in powerful surf form head high upwards. it takes over from where the extra planing area of the Lumus becomes unnecessary due to the additional wave speed and energy. The forward section retains the same hull profile, that is blended into the Bonzer concaves that run out through the tail. The fins are slightly revised version of the Lumus four fin bonzer set up that has proven so successful. it has the good wave catching and low speed planing of the Lumus but the plan shape is narrower and straighter and the board draws a beautiful line in powerful surf retaining the light responsive feel of the Lumus with ultimate Drive and control.
Both the Spectro and the Lumus are boards that have totally changed the way the i think about surfing and what a surfboard can be capable of. The ultimate goal for me as a shaper is to give the surfer the tools for total freedom of expression on the wave with as little restriction from the board as possible. These boards come very close to that goal. The feelings of speed, freedom, response and control are difficult to describe but i guess for me it is how a surfboard should feel but few seldom do.

Super 6 for Alex

Some words from Alex "The Super 6 design is a Transitional Displacement Hull. The idea was to create a board with hull characteristics with modern short board turning control under the back foot. Its a lively board to ride either as a single fin or with the added side bite options. The single fin an inch up from the back of the box will give the board a loose feel, you can engage the rail more on the turns and maintain loads of speed. When the waves are steeper, the side bites (all set in a line - moving the single fin up further) will tighten up the back of the board and stop it sliding out. Thickness distribution plays a big part in the board, its almost 3" thick under your chest for moving around quickly in the line up and paddling in early, this volume then quickly tapers out to the rails and down towards the tail. Also, the foam in the nose is taken out to enable you to drop the entire length of the rail into the turn, on more pivotal turns, it feels light and responsive. Its a board that takes a bit of time to figure out, constantly shifting your weight and feet around to connect turns, more weight forward to feel the hull and increase speed, weight back for snappy turns back into the pocket."

Lumus feedback
I've now surfed the board in a fairly wide range of conditions over the last few weeks ranging from completely awful where the Lumus made the most of what was available to really decent French beach break at about 4 foot...absolutely great!The board paddles and catches stuff well, accelerates quickly and makes it's way easily past flat/weak sections but still holds a line on steeper faces. When there is some power in the wave she flies...a real speed machine! Turns - not something I'm renowned for doing too many of - are smooth and effortless and the board is encouraging me to surf in different ways. Plus with a somewhat different shape, great glass job, resin tint and bamboo fins it's a real head turner and raising a fair bit of interest.
Surfed it again last night in fairly chunky onshore conditions. Even on the bigger drops the board was solid and comfortable when I thought the wider tail might move around a bit. On the odd waves that held up a bit the board really gets up and goes...we get a lot of second rate waves up here so something that makes the most of anything is important to me fir a fun session!
I'm extremely pleased I went for the Lumus...finally a smaller board that I'm really enjoying riding and not tempted to drift back to my big boards...may even be tempted by a sub 6 foot one sometime?
